The game is the Tronica Space Mission SM-11, an LCD handheld made in Hong Kong during the early 1980s. Although the exact release year isn’t firmly documented, it’s generally considered to be from around 1982–1984, during the boom of LCD handhelds that followed Nintendo’s hugely successful Game & Watch series.

Unlike cartridge-based handhelds, these games contained a single LCD screen with pre-printed artwork. The “animation” came from turning individual LCD segments on and off.

In Space Mission, you control a spacewalker (astronaut) tethered to a spacecraft while avoiding hazards and repairing or navigating around a satellite. It has:

• Two difficulty modes (Game A and Game B)
• LCD alarm clock functionality
• Quartz clock
• One LCD screen
• Powered by two LR44/SR44 button batteries
• Large red left/right movement buttons

Tronica

Tronica wasn’t Nintendo – it was a Hong Kong manufacturer producing LCD handhelds in the early 1980s.

Collectors generally regard Tronica as:

• one of the better non-Nintendo LCD manufacturers,
• known for attractive artwork,
• reasonably good build quality,
• but produced in much lower numbers than Nintendo Game & Watch.

Their catalogue included titles like:
