Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance is a hack and slash game for the PlayStation 2 where you play as Invictus Thrax, a gladiator who must restore order to Rome and avenge the murder of the emperor:
Gameplay
You play from a third-person perspective and use a variety of weapons, including a sword, battleaxe, and gauntlet. You can also perform finishing moves on weakened enemies, cast magic, and use context-sensitive moves like climbing ropes or pulling levers.
Story
The game takes place in 106 AD, when the Roman Empire is in decline after the death of Emperor Trajan. The new emperor, Arruntius, has destroyed parts of Rome to create a battleground for a gladiatorial event.
Features
You can earn weapon upgrades, a larger health bar, and other items by completing challenges. You can also fill up your Blood Meter to produce powers from the Olympian Gods, like fire, lightning, and wraiths.

Some say the game is fun, easy to get into, and has intuitive controls. Others say it’s a mindless but ultimately enjoyable guilty pleasure.
