Wētā Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and physical effects manufacture for all three films of The Lord of the Rings™ trilogy. The skull of Gollum, a creature once known as Sméagol™, presents a poignant study in tragic transformation. “The delicate and diminutive bone structure, marked by a high cranial vault and recessed jaw, reflects both his humble origins and the corruptive influence of the One Ring. Gollum’s skull, with its pronounced ocular orbits, hints at the profound changes wrought by his years in darkness.

This artifact uniquely captures the essence of his dual existence, teetering between creature and wretch.
